Electric Meter Relocation FAQs
We would strongly advise anyone not to move their own electricity meter unless they are a fully qualified electrician and have the knowledge and expertise on how to perform this task safely.
The process involves temporarily disconnecting and capping the main supply before physically moving the meter and making the necessary adjustments to reconnecting the electricity supply once the meter is secured in the new location.
If the reason for moving your meter is that of a cosmetic nature rather than due to you having difficulty reading your meter or performing building work that could potentially damage the meter, then your electricity provider will 9 times out of 10 decline your request and charge you for the work.
There is a range of factors that need to be considered before we can provide a price for a meter move. These factors include:
- How far you would like to move the meter
- Is the meter being moved inside or outside of the property
- How much groundwork would need to be done
You can contact the dedicated team at GEC and they can provide you with an accurate costing after these factors have been determined.
